The Old G’s U13’s started their season with a good win against local rivals Dartfordians built on team work & hard tackling and a never say die attitude, here this Sunday at Bronte View.

Up against a bigger & more experienced pack the forwards held their own until late on when tiredness started to get to the hard working Old G’s forwards, yet both tries came from set plays the first just before the end of a hard hitting first half, felt especially by Curly Conner, who laid his body on the line for the good of the team.

From a line-out deep in the Darts half the ball was moved quickly through the impressive Old G’s back line until flanker Angus went over in the corner for the first try, the missed conversion was the only blot on another wise excellent kicking display by Ryan G.

With Alex F coming on for the BLOND Conner, the forwards had some added grunt in the second half and although losing most scrums and line-outs the one scrum they won, Curly Ryan, making an assured appearance at scrum half, moved the ball quickly for Nathan to receive a well timed ball from his fly-half to go on a mazy solo run for Old G’s second try.

Although the Darts came on strong in the latter stages some great defensive work by the backs ensured that they did not get close to the Old G’s line, Ryan G added a late penalty conversion to close the match out.

As a foot note the whole team should be congratulated on their effort, attitude and mature way they went about the whole day, they deserved their victory today because of this and if they carry on with the same all-round dedication it could be a good season ahead.
